Brisbane, Houses, Gardens, Suburbs and Congregations, 2010 (324 pages). Edited by Rod Fisher
This collection of individual papers is somewhat out of the ordinary as it addresses four separate subjects, each section prefaced by an introductory or instructive paper. The first takes a look at specific residences, domestic interiors and the way of life, particularly during the First and Second World Wars.
The second section looks at the evolution of the domestic garden, specific purpose institutional gardens, public parks and BCC’s first Superintendent of Parks. The European settlement and development of four of our suburbs is covered in a condensed form in the third section. Section four examines Anglican, Baptist, Jewish and Catholic congregations
